Hans-Peter Neeser: I’m satisfied with the current situation

The International Paralympic Committee Technical Delegate visited Khanty-Mansiysk before the World Championships. He willingly shared his impressions with the Organizing Committee Press Servic.

Hans, what has changed since the last time you visited Khanty-Mansiysk?

- During the February working tour identified some important points to be taken into account while the Stadium was being prepared for the competition.  Now the infrastructure objects of the Winter Sports Center meet all the requirements of technical regulations. Of course, there are always some things to work on, but here in Khanty-Mansiysk everything is really well-organized. The preparation of the stadium comes to its end now and we have time on our side. There are some days left till the Competitions begin. I’m sure the Championships will be at the top level.

In February the Winter Sports Center was being reconstructed, but now all the works are finished. What can you say about the changes? Do you find the Stadium ready to receive physically disabled people?

- I am pleasantly surprised with the present condition of the stadium, because only two months ago the work was in full swing. All the objects now are equipped with necessary elements which are ramps and lifts. I’m satisfied with the current situation. I think that Khanty-Mansiysk Biathlon Center will host the high-level competitions in the future.

So you don’t deny the posibility, that in the next few years we will have another World Championship here?

- Not at all. I find it possible that Khanty-Mansiysk will host World Cups and other International Competitions, but now we are to carry out the Championships.  After that we will focus on Sochi, because we’ll have to organize a number of competitions till 2014. However, no one is going to forget about the comfortable Siberian town.

Siberian spring is rather unpredictable. There are always the temperature variations. How the weather conditions can influence the competition results?

- All we need is snow. If there’s snow, there’s a competition. Some like the cold weather and some don’t. The temperature is constantly changing: it’s freezing at nights, but in the daytime snow becomes softer. We got used to such changes and that is why we don’t expect any unpleasant surprises. There’s only one thing left: we wish good luck to all the athletes!
