Sergey Khizhnyak: Russia is the main rival for Ukraine national team

The Ukrainian athlete Sergey Khizhnyak shared his impressions of the World Championships organization and told about his expectations concerning up-coming competitions.

Sergey, what was your first impression of Khanty-Mansiysk?

- I was pleasantly surprised with the competitions and trainings organization. There is a warm atmosphere and comfortable conditions for the athletes everywhere – all these prove the top-level of the organization. The Opening Ceremony was magnificent! Our team was impressed with the show which took place in the Ice Palace. I was so amazed with the scale of the performance; usually it is a bit less grandiose. Everything was perfect!

How do you appreciate preparatory level of the Ukrainian athletes?

- I’m a bit worried before the first start, tomorrow will dot all the i’s. We will see the level of our team. I think that the Belarus and German athletes can turn into serious rivals for us. But the Russian national team is still our main competitor.

Note: Sergey Khizhnyak (Ukraine) is the Master of Sports of International Class in skiing. The Biathlon and Cross-Country Skiing Championships and World Cups participant; the Olympic team member; the winner of eight medals of different value.
