Trygve Larsen: This is my first birthday in Russia

Trygve Larsen, the member of Norway Paralympic team, is celebrating his 39th birthday in Russia. The athlete told about his life and plans for the World Championships 2011.

Trugve, this is your first birthday in Russia. How are you going to celebrate it?

- Yes, this birthday is really unusual. The capitan of our team is cooking a waffle cake for me. So, I’m going to celebrate right now together with my teammates.

Tell about your everyday life? What else do you do besides sports?

- Police. I studied for it; I had to be in good shape. That’s why sport always was an important part of my life.

Why did you decide to do sports? Who influenced you?

- I’ve been doing sports all my life, but I was injured in 2001. And then our present team capitan invited me to the Paralympic team. So I decided to participate in competitions of this category.

How many years do you participate in competitions? What do you expect from the Khanty-Mansiysk Championships 2011?

-My first competitions were in 2002. So I’ve been participating in competitions of different levels for 9 years now. As for my plans for these Championships I expect only gold, of course.

How are you getting ready for the competitions? Are you worried before the race?

- I try to relax and to save my energy, there is nothing to worry about. I have my first race tomorrow, and now I just have a good time with my teammates. I think I’m ready for tomorrow.

Who do you think will become a strong rival for you in your category?

- Irek Zaripov from Russian team, I think.

What do you think of the Championships organization?

- I like it. They created comfortable conditions for us, and I’m satisfied with the stadium. The organizers did a very good job.

Hilde Gjelsvik, Trygve’s friend and teammate, wished him happy birthday and a good race tomorrow. «He’s a very energetic person; he likes to laugh a lot and prefers to lead a healthy lifestyle. He always stays a very cheerful person», – he added in conclusion.
