“On the land of Ugric people” – tour to ethnographic open-air museum “TorumMaa”
The ethnographic museum “TorumMaa” is located in the heart of Khanty-Mansiysk, in unusual and beautiful place, on one of the seven hills covered with venerable cedars.
Museum itself represents two nomad camps of Khanty and Mansi, summer and winter houses surrounded with utility structures: meal shops, bread stove, smoking shed, shed for keeping the boats and sledges, man’ kol – maternity home, birch bark tent anda forge.
The museum visitors have a marvellous chance to visit the winter house of Mansi. Here they can hear about the customs, ceremonies and the traditional way of life of Khanty and Mansi. You’ll be surprised with the beauty of Siberian patterns, which will surround you everywhere: on the clothes, decorations or utensil. Children will enjoy the puppets made of fabric, fur, leaves and wood.
From the stories of the guide you will learn about unusual and interesting world of Ugric women. Every single thing of her has its zest, its own mystery. One of such things is tuchang – female hand-made bag. That mystery will be revealedonce you come to us.
When the guests climb down the hill they will have a chance to visit the hunting path, where the traps are located. Those traps are simple at the first sight but perfect in their design.
Once the visitors leave the path, they end up in mysterious world of the ancient religion of Khanty and Mansi. Under the mighty cedar there is an exposition “Seven Idols”, created by G. Rayshev, an Honoured Artist of Russian Federation. In his work all the peculiarities of monumental sculptures of ob-ugric people are represented.
On your request there will be sport event organized for you. This event will include the national kinds of sport:
– Jumping over the sledges
– Tug-of-war (stick instead of rope)
– Throwing the rope to grab the stick
– Archery
