Russian biathletes have won the Cup of Nations
Men’s and women’s teams headed the Russian biathlon national ranking – the Cup of Nations.
During the season biathletes of the men’s team managed to score 7070 points in 20 races. We remind you that only the points earned by the three top biathletes of a national federation in each individual, sprint and relay races of the World Cup, Olympics and World Championships are considered. Over the past 25 years, biathletes of the Soviet Union and Russia achieved this result four times, which corresponds to the third place for most wins in the Cup. The absolute leaders in this competition are the Norwegians – 10 wins, and a second position went to the biathletes from Germany – 7 wins (including wins of the biathletes from East and West Germany – 10 wins).
Russian biathletes (women) in the current season have earned 7089 points, five points more than the final result of their rivals – biathlon team of Germany. By the way, they won the trophy more than any other team in the 25-year history – 14 times.
Russians became winners of the national federations ranking four times; another victory was gained by the Soviet national team. Thus, the Russian national team, as well as all the teams, ranked from first to fifth place in the rankings, has retained the right to declare up to eight biathletes to participate in the races next season. At the same time only six biathletes will leave at the start.
