The ethnographic museum “TorumMaa” is located in the heart of Khanty-Mansiysk, in unusual and beautiful place, on one of the seven hills covered with venerable cedars.

Museum itself represents two nomad camps of Khanty and Mansi, summer and winter houses surrounded with utility structures: meal shops, bread stove, smoking shed, shed for keeping the boats and sledges, man’ kol – maternity home, birch bark tent anda forge.

The museum visitors have a marvellous chance to visit the winter house of Mansi. Here they can hear about the customs, ceremonies and the traditional way of life of Khanty and Mansi. You’ll be surprised with the beauty of Siberian patterns, which will surround you everywhere: on the clothes, decorations or utensil. Children will enjoy the puppets made of fabric, fur, leaves and wood.

From the stories of the guide you will learn about unusual and interesting world of Ugric women. Every single thing of her has its zest, its own mystery. One of such things is tuchang – female hand-made bag. That mystery will be revealedonce you come to us.

When the guests climb down the hill they will have a chance to visit the hunting path, where the traps are located. Those traps are simple at the first sight but perfect in their design.

Once the visitors leave the path, they end up in mysterious world of the ancient religion of Khanty and Mansi.  Under the mighty cedar there is an exposition “Seven Idols”, created by G. Rayshev, an Honoured Artist of Russian Federation. In his work all the peculiarities of monumental sculptures of ob-ugric people are represented.

On your request there will be sport event organized for you. This event will include the national kinds of sport:

–          Jumping over the sledges

–          Tug-of-war (stick instead of rope)

–          Throwing the rope to grab the stick

–          Archery

The exhibition “Historical Time” presents the history of the taiga Ob-Irtysh land, Samarovo, Khanty-Mansiysk and Khanty-Mansiysk region from the Stone Age to the modern time. The exhibition consists of three composition themes that consistently represent different epochs:

“Antiquity” – prehistory and history of the Ob-Irtysh area from ​​the Stone Age to the late Middle Ages;

“Samarovo” – history of the region since the accession of Siberia to Russia (the end of the XVI century) till World War I;

“Twentieth Century” – modern history, from the period of revolution in 1917 till the present days.

However, the entire exhibition and its individual components are united internally by common themes that form the algorithm “Link of Times”.

The events and characters of different ages in spite of the distance in time, essentially have something in common with each other in the positioning of social and individual values ​​and interests.

The journey through the epochs that is offered to the visitors includes acquaintance with the facts and characters of history; every scene recreates the atmosphere of its era, forming together the canvas of historical events.

The exhibition has main accents: “historical image” and “historical lesson”.

Accordingly, from a methodological point of view that gives the visitor double impression: understanding and involvement in the story.

The amplitude of the dialogue ranges from a millennium to a moment, creating a coherent historic image of the region.

That is what the main idea of ​​the exposition is.

Human and Nature Museum

Human and Nature Museum is open to public since the 4^th of November 1936 and it is the oldest and the largest museum institution in Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug. It can boast of a unique collection of over a hundred thousands of items.

Nowadays it is the only museum institution in Ugra, the scientific research results in the field of paleontology of which are recognized at the international level: the opening of the largest and the world’s only location of the mammoth fauna “Lugovskoye” – a unique testimony that the ancient man hunted after mammoths.

State Human and Nature Museum is a scientific and methodical center for assistance to municipal, departmental, school and community museums in the autonomous Okrug in all areas of museum activity.

Museum attendance has twice exceeded the number of the Khanty-Mansiysk population for several years.

Human and Nature Museum is the only institution in Ugra that developed and actively implemented a comprehensive program “Museum without a barrier” for people with disabilities.

In the years 2007 – 2008 four branches were created on the basis of the Human and Nature Museum: the “Estate Museum of the rural merchant” in Seliyarovo, a research hospital “Mukhrinskiy”, branch “Lugovskoye” and a nature monument “Samarovskiy Butte – Archaeopark” in Khanty-Mansiysk. Museum and its branches are the objects of Ugra tourist industry and active participants of its development.

During the Biathlon World Cup Final, 13-18 March 2012, the State Human and Nature Museum offers to visit the following expositions and exhibitions:
