Martin Fourcade became a sprint winner of the World Cup Biathlon Final

The first race of the World Cup Biathlon has finished in the Winter Sports Center named after A. Filipenko.

Today the weather decided not to show its refractory nature. Despite the tradition of the late frosts at that time, the temperature in the sports center was – 5 C°, and the wind speed was not more than three meters per second. Generally, the weather was very comfortable, although there was a little snow.

The best result in was shown by Martin Fourcade, France, the leader in the sprint race, who run the distance for 26 minutes 40 seconds.

The second time was shown by the German biathlete Arnd Peiffer, who finished 5 seconds behind the leader. It’s interesting that Peiffer is the only biathlete who missed a target, but got a medal.

This miss cost him a gold medal. The third was Fredric Lindström, Sweden. Perfect shooting and high speed on the course helped him to win a bronze.

On the home land the Russian biathletes tried to do their best. The first to claim his ambitions was Evgeny Ustyugov. From the very beginning of the race he tried to show high speed, and finished the first shooting in one breath. The Russian biathlete keep running among the top three, but then he missed three times and failed to be even among the top ten. All this resulted in the 22th position. The best result among the Russian biathletes was shown by Dmitry Malyshko. The young biathlete became the 11th.
