Martin Fourcade: “I aimed exceptionally for the victory”

Martin Fourcade, Arnd Peiffer and Fredrik Lindstrom, the winners of the first sprint in Khanty-Mansiysk commented on the importance of the right mood for the successful performance.

-Martin, you seemed very confident today. Is it really that easy to clean all the targets on the shooting stage?

Martin Fourcade: I thought about the whole season this morning and I realized that I must shoot clean in the last sprint today. I was in a great shape on the shooting stage, but it wasn’t that easy for me. I started fast but I didn’t have skis good enough so it was difficult to ski. Despite this all I’m happy that I will be the first to start tomorrow’s race.

– Did you rest a lot before the competition?

Martin Fourcade: I had days off on Monday and Tuesday. I started to train only on Thursday and the training wasn’t very intense. Today I was absolutely focused on the race. The last three days I hardly had a sleep and it was hard to keep calm. I’m really glad that I’ve won today.Yesterday I read in one book that the strength of the spirit is essential. And I was definitely set on the winning today.

-Arnd, your best results take place mostly in Khanty-Mansiysk…

Arnd Peiffer: I really like this city. Every time  I come here I feel excellent. And my results correspond to that. As Martin have noticed, the right mood is essential  – if you are psychologically ready for the race you will perform successfully. I’m happy with today’s race.

-Arnd, was it hard to realize that Martin is leading in the race?

Arnd Peiffer: I know that Martin is the best sportsman in the world and I’m happy that he is a winner today. As for myself, I’m happy just to be on the podium.

– Fredrik, what was the reason for your winning – wild adrenaline after the medal in Ruhpolding or the peak of your sport shape?

Fredrik Lindstrom: Both. I’m still excited about winning the bronze in mass start of the World Championship in Ruhpolding. Besides, right now I’m in a great shape. Our team had great time while the Wolrd Championship and we continue to fight for medals and uphold the honor of the Sweden flag.
