Magdalena Neuner confirmed her leading status in sprint
The women sprint summed up the first day of the World Cup Biathlon Final.
Magdalena Neuner became a predictable winner of the sprint race. In her individual manner she ran the distance in 22 minutes 11 minutes. It’s difficult to imaging the result if she wouldn’t miss twice.
The second position went to Vita Semerenko, and that was quite unexpected. She showed good time mostly because of her perfect shooting. Her high speed is also worth to mention. Now we hope that the biathlete will have forces for tomorrow’s pursuit.
The bronze medal went to Darya Domracheva from Belarus. She could pretend to get the gold one, as she was the second for a long time, but missed a target during the second shooting. If Kaisa Makarainen was faster and more successful, Vita’s miss could cost her a medal.
Olga Zaitseva and Olga Vilukhina didn’t participate in the race, and the Russian biathletes didn’t show anything impressive. Svetlana Sleptsova shot well enough, with an only miss, but her speed wasn’t very high. All this resulted in the 31th position. The best result was shown by 24-years-old Ekaterina Glazyrina. Having missed twice, she came to finish 1 minute 25 seconds behind the leader. The others of our biathletes ended up the race past the top twenty.
